NOMENCLATURE: PLATFORM, AIRDROP, TYPE V
DESCRIPTION:
The Type V
airdrop platform is a modular component assembly constructed of aluminum extrusions
and is used for airdropping loads ranging from 2,500 lb. to 42,000 lb. from
aircraft having the 463L standard, dual rail, restraint systems. (60,000 lb. have
been dropped using large aircraft.) A vented version is used to drop loads onto
water. This platform is LAPE qualified. (Note: The LAPE airdrop method is not in
current practice in the U.S. as a standard airdrop method.)
